Taunton youngsters get a unique insight into hot air balloons during fiesta visit

Pupils at Priorswood Primary School were treated to an educational lesson featuring a real-life tethered hot air balloon on school grounds.

The visit is in celebration of the world-famous Bristol International Balloon Fiesta, which will take place in Ashton Court from August 8 to 10.

The visit forms part of the inaugural Schools Tether Roadshow, an outreach programme from the Fiesta, designed to engage young people with the science and spectacle of ballooning.

The initiative has already selected eight Bristol schools to host tethered balloon events this summer, following an incredible 400 applications.

Thanks to their recent partnership with the Fiesta’s headline sponsor, Taunton-based Albert Goodman, Priorswood Primary School has been specially selected to take part in the programme, bringing the magic of ballooning beyond Bristol, and into the heart of Somerset.

Robin Clempson, partner at Albert Goodman, said: “We are thrilled to help bring the joy of the Balloon Fiesta to pupils in Taunton. This visit is not only a chance for children to experience something truly memorable, but also a celebration of the fantastic relationship we’ve built with the school over many years.”

Ben Hardy, executive director at the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta, added: “The Balloon Fiesta is a unique event that has captivated generations of West Country residents, and every year we welcome a significant number of visitors from across Somerset.

“Bringing balloons directly into school playgrounds not only provides a great learning opportunity but also creates special memories that will last forever.

“We’re looking forward to inspiring the next generation of Fiesta-goers, and maybe even future pilots.”

The visit gave pupils the chance to meet balloon pilots, learn about the science of flight, and experience up close one of the UK’s most iconic aerial traditions.

The 2025 Bristol International Balloon Fiesta will take place over three days, from Friday to Sunday, August 8 to 10, in the rolling hills of Ashton Court Estate. The Fiesta will include two Night Glow events, taking place consecutively on Friday and Saturday evening. For more information, visit www.bristolballoonfiesta.co.uk.
