NHS England go-ahead for £7.8 million diagnostic centre in Bridgwater

A NEW seven-day-a-week diagnostic centre has got the go-ahead in Bridgwater – subject to planning approval.

NHS England has approved the £17.8 million plan to build a facility next to Bridgwater Community Hospital.

“With capacity for 25,000 additional scans annually, the centre will run across seven days a week and significantly improve access to vital cardiac and cancer diagnostics, reduce waiting times, and bring care closer to the community – a key goal of the NHS 10 Year Plan,” a Somerset NHS spokesperson said.

“This is a huge step forward in delivering more accessible, community-based care for the people of Somerset.

“We have this month applied for planning permission for the new centre, and if approved, the new facility is likely to open in Summer 2026 developed by Ergea, a partner of our trust who provides imaging services.

“While the centre is in development, AGITO Medical will provide temporary MRI and CT scanners at Bridgwater Community Hospital, giving local people access to specialist scanning at the earliest opportunity.”
