PLANS for a new skatepark in Langport have been submitted.
The scheme, from Langport Town Council and Huish Episcopi Parish Council, has been submitted by Clive Miller Planning to Somerset Council to develop the facility at the Recreation Ground, in Eastover.
A previous skatepark at the site has been “abandoned” due to problems with maintenance and overhanging trees, the plans said.
“More recently, a community group has been consulting with the public about the need for a new facility and its exact design content and fundraising is well advanced,” the application went on.
The proposed new skatepark has been designed by specialist firm Maverick, the plans said, and will be suitable for skateboarders, roller skaters and cyclists of all ages.

“The footprint of the new facility measures 35.9 metres x 11.2 metres at its widest points and an overall footprint of 335sqm,” the plans added. “The maximum height of the facility will not exceed 1.4 metres and it has a volume of 189.5m3.”
The planning application asks for a certificate of lawfulness for the scheme, meaning it could go ahead.
