PLANS for a new takeaway pizza restaurant in Street have been approved – but the current tenants don’t know when they are leaving.
The application, for a change of use of 1 Bayliss Centre, in the High Street, from a shop to a takeaway, by Sanjay Patel, was approved by Somerset Council on July 10.
Drawings submitted as part of the application show new signage for Fireaway Authentic Pizza.
However, the premises are currently occupied by 7 System Computers Ltd, who have taken to social media to let customers know what is happening – or not.
“We have today found out that the planning application for a takeaway/restaurant for the shop has been approved by Somerset Council,” the store said.
“We are waiting to hear from the landlord in regard to when they wish for us to leave! Once we have this information we will of course let our customers know.
“On a positive note, we can say watch this space for some exciting news.”

It is not known when the new takeaway will open, but opening hours on the planning permission are between 11am and 10pm.
Comments on the application were submitted – opposing the plan.
One resident said: “Street does not need yet another fast-food business. There are plenty of them, including Ram’s Kebabs, which is pretty much opposite this building.
“Why is another needed, when there is a perfectly good one opposite that offers good food at decent prices? Why are we taking trade from a business when the economy is in turmoil?”
Another added: “We need diversity and shops with practical services for the town. Not one more food chain outlet selling yet more pizza.
“Not only that, but the shop’s tenant has had no warning that their landlord has put in this ridiculous application and has been served no notice of the intended change of use of premises.
“As a resident of the area, I strongly object.”

Why, why, why, yet another fast food outlet.
As stated many times before our towns needs shops not takeaways such as the one this is going to replace which offers a much needed service and advice on items they sell and service.
The treatment this tenant has received from his landlord is disgraceful.
Running a business is not easy these days, having this hanging over your head must be an unwanted stress.
