Avon & Somerset Police horses play important role in French President Macron’s state visit

AVON & Somerset Police were represented at the recent state visit of French President Emmanuel Macron – on four legs as well as two.

Half a dozen mounted officers and their horses travelled to Windsor this week, where they assisted with the European leader’s visit to the UK.

Two of the horses, PH Trinity and PH Windsor, took part in the parade in front of large crowds, while the others “helped ensure that the occasion was safe and enjoyable for all attending”.

“This deployment also proved a valuable experience for PH Pilton and PH Arthur Apples, for whom it was their first time facing crowds of this size away from home on what we call Mutual Aid,” a police spokesperson said.

“They both took it in their stride and were a credit to the force.

“It takes a huge team effort to prepare for an event of this scale with many working behind the scenes in the run up to make sure the horses and their kit are turned out to the highest standard.

“Horses and riders were ably assisted by groom Sara during their time away, who has worked with the team for over 20 years.”
