SELF-PROCLAIMED ‘Bass General’ bus DJ Martin Dickson has announced he has left Glastonbury – on the day he was due back in court for stealing a £22,000 boat.
In June 2021 52-year-old Dickson, who lives in his green Bass General bus in the Somerset town, stole a fishing boat during a trip to Scotland.
The vessel was later recovered, but had suffered damage costing £10,000 to repair.
After admitting the theft, a court was told Dickson had no recollection of why he carried out the theft, and that he had been abusing cocaine at the time.
At Dunfermline Sheriff Court, Dickson was ordered to repay £10,000 to the boat owner, and soon after launched a GoFundMe appeal asking for people to help him raise the money.
However, in March, the court was told Dickson – who said he earned an average of £2,600 a month – had £3,700 in the bank, gained through savings and selling DJ equipment, and could pay two further payments of £500 a month, with the money being handed over in the next three months.
He was due to attend a further hearing on July 9.

On July 6, he posted on social media that he intended to leave Glastonbury – where his appearances with the Bass General bus have provoked mixed reactions.
He wrote: “Well, I’ve decided I’m gonna move on from Glastonbury this week. Just got a couple of loose ends to tie up and then move on and see what the future holds.
“Glastonbury isn’t the same as it was 20 years ago and life has changed by far and not for the better … So many people out to damage the next person and there is so much of this going on at this point (in) time but anyway, like I said, time to move on, so farewell Glastonbury, ’til the next time.”
And on July 9, the day of his proposed hearing, he posted how he was leaving Glastonbury and had “said goodbyes to my close friends”.
