UP TO 170 new homes could be built on two fields in Woolavington – if plans for the development go ahead.
Grassroots Planning, on behalf of South West Strategic Developments Ltd, has requested a ‘screening opinion’ from Somerset Council over potential plans to develop two parcels of agricultural land off Combe Lane, east of Woolavington Hill, totalling around 21 acres.
The sites would be accessed from Elm Lane, Vicarage Road and Combe Lane, should plans be approved.
Woolavington is set to see an influx of residents as work progresses on a new Gigafactory at the nearby Gravity site, which is set to create thousands of jobs.
“The scheme will compliment the nearby employment allocation by providing homes within easy walk and cycle distance of the new employment opportunities,” the application said.
Documents submitted as part of the application said the scheme would see between 150 and 170 homes in “mixed sizes, types and tenures”, alongside design aimed at creating “an attractive addition to the area, and to respect the character of the site and its surroundings”.
It added a “sensitive approach will continue to be taken during the detailed design stage” of the process.
The screening will now be considered by Somerset Council planners. For more information, visit somerset.gov.uk and search application reference 54/25/00012.
