Work progressing to replace busy Langport footbridge

WORK to replace a well-used Langport footbridge is progressing.

The walkway, which carries people from the Tesco car park over the Northstreet Moor Rhyne, is currently closed for “essential” repairs.

And the work is progressing, with rails and boards replaced, though a finish date for the project is unclear.

Initially, signs at the site said the bridge would close on May 26 “for seven working days”. However, as of June 11, the bridge was still shut off to walkers.

A sign at the bridge said the work was “essential maintenance and repairs”.

“We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, but feel the safety of our customers and greater public, this work will be beneficial to all,” it added.

The route is used by pedestrians heading to and from the supermarket, as well as dog walkers and hikers making their way through the town.
