A historic old vicarage in stunning Somerset setting is on the market

A STUNNING former vicarage dating from the Georgian period is up for sale.

The Old Vicarage, in Moorlinch, sits inside a fully-walled garden and boasts six bedrooms and views across the Somerset Levels.

It is being marketed by Tim Phillips, with an asking price of £2.2 million.

“The Old Vicarage blends period charm with modern living with far reaching views of the English countryside,” the listing said. “Framed by a cascade of romantic wisteria that cloaks the entire front façade, the house is both charming and handsome.

“As you gaze out through its sash windows, the wisteria continues to enchant, delicately framing the views beyond, rolling landscapes, manicured walled garden, orchard and skies that seem to stretch endlessly.”

The Old Vicarage is set in around 2.35 acres of grounds, with gardens described as “a triumph of English horticulture”.

Inside, flagstone floors are combined with tall sash windows, “elegant fireplaces, and generous rooms”, making the house “perfect for family living and entertaining”.

Also, in the grounds, is a stone-built Coach House, with its own gated entrance, flag stone frontage and walled terrace, which has been renovated.

“With underfloor heating, insulation, and plenty of natural light it is perfectly suited for use as an office, guest suite, or artist’s studio,” the listing adds.

The house was built on land held by Glastonbury Abbey since before the Norman Conquest and was home to a vicarage since at least the 14th century.

It was extensively rebuilt around 1803 and owned by clergy until its sale by the Church in 1980.
