THE windows of an empty Bridgwater shop now provide passing shoppers with an artist-designed map of the town.
A project led by Bridgwater Town Council and the Bridgwater Town Team has seen an illustrated map installed at the former Clinton Cards shop, in Fore Street.
The move came just weeks after a planning application was submitted to Somerset Council to convert the upper floors of the building into six apartments.
Below, however, the storefront is now wrapped in an illustrated map designed by artist Alison Jacobs.
“This colourful installation is part of a wider initiative to enhance the appearance of the town centre and attract more footfall,” a BTC spokesperson said.
“While some empty units remain, Bridgwater enjoys a lower-than-average shop vacancy rate compared to the national figure.”

They said the council and Bridgwater Town Team – made up of businesses, council representatives and the Sedgemoor Chamber – are working together to make the town centre more inviting.
Cllr Mick Lerry added: “Of course, we’d rather see every shop open and thriving. But with high streets across the country facing challenges, it’s vital we don’t let vacant units drag down the town centre.
“Projects like this help keep Bridgwater looking fresh and welcoming and show our commitment to a vibrant future.”
