A TEENAGER electrocuted at Millfield School in Street could face a double amputation after the horrific incident.
Chase, whose family lives in South Africa and New Zealand, was injured in an incident at the school on May 3 which saw three pupils “come into contact with overhead cables”.
Now, a fundraising page has been launched to support the 14-year-old and his family, who are facing the “financial burden” of travel and care costs as he fights for his life.
The ‘Support for Chase’ GoFundMe page was launched by fellow Millfield parent, Daveene McCallion, whose children also attend the school.
She said: “Chase was at the same school as my son and is the same age. It could so easily have been my son and – in a way – Chase is indeed one of ‘our’ lovely children.
“This is why we should be compelled to do all we can to help.
“Chase is bright and energetic, with a passion for sports. Known for his determination and athletic skill, he has been an inspiration to his teammates and friends. He has always been positive, healthy and strong.”
She said on May 3, Chase suffered “severe electrical burns in a life-altering incident when he came into contact with overhead power cables while playing at school”.

“Chase is now in a critical condition,” Daveene went on. “His injuries are extensive, affecting his internal organs and with such severe burns that he has had most of his toes amputated.
“His feet may have to be amputated and NHS surgeons are working tirelessly. They remain uncertain whether they will be able to save his feet as the burns have caused critical damage.
“We all pray that no more had to be amputated and we are enormously grateful for everything the NHS is doing.
“Careful fluid therapy is being used for his internal injuries.”
She said he now faces a “long and challenging journey” and is expected to remain in hospital for at least two months.
“His family lives in New Zealand and South Africa,” Daveene said. “They are, of course, doing everything they can to support Chase and remain functional and strong.
“Sadly though, Chase’s mum and dad are alone here in the UK until family are able to join them and provide much needed love, support and comfort.
“The financial burden of ongoing care for Chase is going to be immense. Family members can’t afford to take time away from work and there are also huge costs involved with travel and accommodation for his family to be together.
“We are asking for your help to give Chase the best possible chance at recovery. He needs support from these early stages, where the love and presence of his dear family is so important but also for his longer term care and rehabilitation.

“Your generous contributions will go directly towards Chase’s medical expenses, rehabilitation, and the support he needs for his future.
“Every donation will make a meaningful difference in supporting Chase to rebuild his life and get back to doing what he loves.
“Chase has always been a fighter, and with your help, he can overcome this unimaginable challenge.”
She added: “Let’s show Chase how much we care and that we believe in him to make a positive recovery.
“Thank you very much for standing by him and with him. Let’s give Chase the hope and encouragement for a bright future.”
After the incident, police said a Health and Safety Executive investigation had been launched, while Millfield said it would be working with authorities “to investigate how the accident occurred”.
