A DEVELOPMENT of nine houses on a farm space in a Somerset village has been resubmitted – with fewer homes proposed.
A scheme for nine homes, which would have seen various agricultural buildings converted into nine new properties at Beeches Farm, Batcombe, was approved by Somerset Council in December last year.
Now, a new scheme has been submitted to the council by Brimble, Lea & Partners on behalf of Mendip Developments Ltd, which would see the agricultural buildings demolished and six new homes built.
The application said: “The current scheme proposes to demolish all of the existing agricultural buildings on site and replace them with six sensitively designed new-build dwellings designed around sustainability, utilising the clients extant fallback position (of nine new homes).”

It said the previous approval meant “the development of nine dwellings on the application site would not lead to any adverse transport, highways or noise impacts”.
“The same conclusions can therefore be made in regards to the current scheme, particularly given the reduction from nine to six residential, and the significant visual and other improvements/enhancements proposed,” it went on.
Each home would be single-storey, it said, with two dedicated parking spaces and double garages, while new hedgerows, two wildlife ponds and sedum roofs are also proposed.
The scheme will now be considered by Somerset Council planners, and for more details, or to comment on the plans, log on to somerset.gov.uk and search application reference 2025/0876/FUL.
