A PLOT of land in Somerton that has lain empty for a number of years – despite plans to build dozens of ‘extra-care living apartments’ – has gone up for sale.
The 0.86-acre site, in Pesters Lane, was formerly home to a residential care development, with the buildings demolished in 2022.
Plans for Somerview – an ‘exclusive’ development of 34 ‘luxury’ apartments – were later unveiled, and planning permission secured, but work has not started.
Now, property agent Greenslade Taylor Hunt is marketing the site, which has “full planning permission for 34 extra-care living apartments”, accepting offers over £1.1 million.
“Offers are invited on an unconditional basis,” the listing said.

Somerview was billed as “an exclusive development of 34 luxury apartments, located just a few minutes’ walk from the heart of the thriving town of Somerton, Somerset”.
“Spacious, light and tasteful, the inside of these boutique apartments is as stylish and considered as the outside thanks to elegant interior design and high-quality specifications throughout,” marketing materials said.
“With an extensive range of facilities available at Somerview, apartment owners can enjoy later life in comfort and entertain, dine, socialise and exercise all from within this attractive development.

“On-site domestic care and hotel-style services, along with 24 hour support, offer peace of mind to owners and their families.”
However, the plot has lain empty for a number of years, including throughout the Covid pandemic and beyond.
