DRIVERS are being urged not to use a Somerset road which is closed as workers deal with a sink hole.
The B3190 at Upton, between Dulverton and Wiveliscombe, was closed on Tuesday after a ‘void’ was discovered.
Somerset Council put an emergency road closure in place to allow teams to investigate and repair the defect.
However, they have now warned people not to use the road – and not to remove closure signs – after barriers were driven over.
“Our team is still on site and working hard to resolve the issue,” a council spokesperson said. “So far, we’ve uncovered a void around 5 metres long and 0.7 metres wide.
“We’re continuing to clear the area to find a stable point where we can safely begin backfilling.

“Please note that the road remains closed for safety reasons, and we kindly ask that barriers and signage are not moved.
“Unfortunately, when our team arrived this morning, they found that the barriers and signs had been driven over. This creates a serious risk, not just for our crew, but for any vehicles that might unknowingly enter the area.
“There are currently open trenches and spoil on the carriageway, and the road is expected to remain closed this evening (May 7) and potentially into tomorrow.
“The risk to vehicles is high – please do not move signage or ignore the road closure.
“We really appreciate your patience and cooperation while we work to make the road safe again.”
