30mph limit on A39 in West Somerset during work to improve walking and cycling route

A 30MPH speed limit will be introduced on the A39 in West Somerset during roadworks which start this week.

Work is starting to complete improvements to the cycling and walking route along the A39, between Minehead and Dunster.

The scheme is expected to take seven weeks and while two-way traffic on the A39 will be maintained during the day, some night work will be required with traffic lights installed.

There will also be a temporary 30mph speed limit in place for the duration of the work, Somerset Council said, to improve safety for workforce and travelling public.

The council’s lead member for transport and waste, Councillor Richard Wilkins, said: “It’s great to see this safe walking and cycling route delivered.

“Our team will be able to keep disruption down to a minimum while work is being done and the end result will be an excellent facility people can enjoy, whether cycling to and from school and work or simply for pleasure.

“We’re committed to improving travel provision and giving people choices in how they wish to get around.”
