THE great farming plains of Norfolk are a long way from Somerset – and the last place you would think you’d wish to spend any time while making the journey is a rail station waiting room.
However, for one recent visitor from East Anglia, it was exactly that location that left a lasting impression.
King’s Lynn native, Felicity Ling, recently spent some time living in Frome before making the 220-mile journey home.
But before doing so, she took some trips around our county – and was left looking forward to any waits for onward journeys thanks to the county’s waiting rooms.

“One of the delights I found – and which went a long way to compensate for inevitable delays in travel by train, were the station waiting rooms I came across,” she said.
“The waiting room in Frome is totally magnificent and worthy of much publicity and praise.
“Frankly, I would have been happy to have waited an hour for onward travel, given the joy the space gave one!

“Another feature of station waiting rooms as well seems to be the provision of mini libraries. Westbury (in neighbouring Wiltshire) and Castle Cary are fine examples of such, a good array of books as well as much neatly displayed visitor information.
“The station waiting rooms over this side of the country are certainly not in your league.”
She said she was looking forward to returning to the West Country, with “more happy waiting spaces to view”.

Just wish it was open more than a few hours on cold wet day
