Weather warning issued for south west ahead of ‘changeable’ Easter weekend forecast for Somerset

A WEATHER warning fringing on Somerset says heavy rain could cause some travel disruption over the Easter weekend.

The Met Office has issued a yellow alert for the south west which will be in place between 6pm on Good Friday until 9am the following morning.

Forecasters said it comes ahead of a predicted “prolonged spell of rain, some of it heavy” that will “likely cause difficult driving conditions and some disruption to travel”.

The area covered by the weather warning covers parts of Devon, including Honiton and Cullompton, almost reaching Somerset towns including Chard and Wellington.

The Met Office is warning of changeable conditions over the Easter bank holiday weekend in the south west, starting on Good Friday.

A forecaster said temperatures could drop to around 5C on Friday morning.

“Often unsettled with spells of heavy rain throughout the day,” they went on. “Windy, especially along the coasts and feeling cooler underneath the cloud and rain. Maximum temperature 13C.”

On Saturday they said: “Often changeable over the Easter weekend with cloud and spells of rain, or showers. Generally drier on Easter Sunday with sunny spells. Temperatures near normal and breezy.”
