Have your say over plans for 71 new homes in Street

PEOPLE are being encouraged to have their say over plans for more than 70 new homes in Street.

Developer Crossman Acquisitions Ltd are working up a planning application for land at Moorland Road.

The firm says around 71 one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom properties could be built on the site, which stretches to 3.37 hectares (8.3 acres), 30% of which would be ‘affordable’.

“The development will provide a mixture of different housing types and sizes, including an element of affordable housing in order to meet the needs of a wide range of people,” the company said.

“The plans will also include extensive public open space, a children’s play area, bio-diversity enhancements and landscaping.

“Vehicular access to the Site will be a continuation of the existing Mendip View estate road.”

Crossman said it was developing an outline planning application for the site, and called on residents to give their feedback on the proposals before it is submitted.

“The purpose of this consultation is to obtain feed-back from local residents and stakeholders on the emerging proposals,” the company added.

“All comments will be carefully reviewed by Crossman Acquisitions Ltd, and where appropriate will be used to inform the emerging proposals.”

For more information on the proposals – and to submit feedback – log on to crossmangroup.co.uk/feedback before 5pm on March 10.

Really you should be building some local authority properties for rent at affordable prices and far more starter homes at half price that you would be anticipating because people just cannot afford them at the present prices and don’t forget this area is very prone to flooding

It sounds and looks like any other development. What about part buy part rents or smaller blocks of flats like the ones on the Somerton Road – aimed at first time buyers. It’s so hard for local youngsters to purchase their first home.

I can’t say I’m looking forward to even more building, and congestion in Street. There seems to be so many building projects on the table at the moment, which makes me concerned as we aren’t called The Wetlands for nothing, and natural drainage is being constantly covered in more and more concrete!!

I do strongly worry about the water table already being so high, lots of the graves stones are sinking now because of it 😢
