Garden waste subscriptions need to be renewed in North Somerset

PEOPLE are being reminded they need to subscribe for garden waste collections in North Somerset ahead of the new financial year, which starts on April 1.

North Somerset Council collections run from April 1 to March 31, and people are able to sign up – or renew – online at www.n-somerset.gov.uk/gardenwaste.

Sign ups for the 2025/26 year can be made any point between now and the end of November 2025, although the earlier a sign up is made, the more collections it covers.

A sign up or renewal for the subscription service costs £65 for each garden waste bin, with a maximum of two bins per household.

Households unable to have garden waste bins will pay the same cost of £65 for three reusable garden waste sacks, with a maximum of six sacks per household.

However, for financially vulnerable households, the cost of subscription may be subsidised, including a 75% discount automatically applied at sign up or renewal for households who meet the criteria for support.

Councillor Annemieke Waite, executive member for climate, waste and sustainability, said: “We’re committed to making North Somerset a thriving and sustainable place to live, work and visit, and the way we deal with garden waste has an important role to play.

“We strongly encourage residents to compost their garden waste at home instead of using the chargeable collection service or recycling centres, as this can have significant environmental benefits.

“You can find out more – from the basics of composting to our master composters scheme – at www.n-somerset.gov.uk/composting.”

Garden waste bin customers will be sent a new blue permit sticker for their bin within 15 working days of subscribing, while addresses will be printed on permits to help collection crews identify which households have signed up.

Garden waste sack customers will receive one permit tag for every three garden waste sacks, and will be asked to write their address on the tag before attaching it to one of their sacks.

Households who don’t renew their garden waste subscription for 2025/26 will automatically stop receiving collections after March 31.
