A REPLACEMENT pavilion building can now be built in East Coker.
East Coker Parish Council had plans approved to replace the building in the recreation ground south of Long Furlong Lane with a new multi-purpose community building.
This would provide new changing rooms, showers, officials’ changing rooms, a kitchen, toilets, and a parish meeting hall.
The council said the new building “will continue to benefit the local community for future generations.”
Alternative plans were previously approved in 2021, but this approval expired on January 12 this year as the plans were never implemented.

The internal layout has been revised during the application process to increase the changing rooms to 20m² and include two officials’ changing rooms, in response to Sport England’s comments.
The preschool building adjoining the existing pavilion to the southwest will be retained, the plans said.

Agent Boon Brown, on behalf of the council, said in the plans: “The new building will have a larger footprint but will match the height and appearance of the existing one.
“Its design mirrors the gable end of the adjoining preschool, creating a balanced look. Unlike the previously approved, taller scheme, this proposal offers a better relationship with the preschool.”
They added: “The replacement of the existing pavilion building with a modern purpose-built structure will make a positive contribution to the well-being of the local community.”
