ONE Somerset school is closed today – and others are opening late or altering the daily timetable – due to snow and other bad weather.

Pupils have faced a difficult journey to school this morning, with snow and flooding causing problems on county routes.

As a result, one school – Whitstone School in Shepton Mallet – has closed for the day, while two others have changed the timetable.

The Blue School, in Wells, plans to open at 10.30am, due to “poor weather and local traffic conditions, including road closures around Wells”.

Leaders at Chewton Mendip CofE Primary School said they “hope to open later in the day”, as staff “are unable to travel safely”.
