Chard Police station re-opens following eight-month refurbishment

CHARD Police Station has re-opened eight months after it closed for a major refurbishment.

The police station, which has seen facilities modernised and its security enhanced, reopened today (December 16) on 2 Millfield.

Refurbishments include the addition of solar panels to the roof, an air source heat pump, new doors and windows to improve energy efficiency, and two new electric vehicle charging points.

The air source heat pump was part funded by a Salix government grant, set up to help public buildings reduce their energy use, running costs and cut carbon emissions.

“Both the response and neighbourhood policing teams already returned to the building,” a spokesperson said.

“The enquiry office will reopen to the public on December 16 at 10am.”

Chief Inspector Andy Pritchard, said: “I know the team has been excited to get back to their new and improved station, which is now one of the most sustainable in the Avon and Somerset area and will allow us to continue to provide a police presence in Chard for many years to come.

“I would also like to thank local business, Numatic, who kindly donated office space free of charge that enabled our Neighbourhood Policing Team to continue to work in Chard for the duration of the refurbishment.”
