More than 100 drivers ignored ‘no left turn’ in 90 minutes, say police

MORE than 100 drivers were stopped by police after turning left at a busy North Somerset road junction – despite it not being allowed.

Members of Avon & Somerset Police’s Nailsea Neighbourhood Policing Team were out at North Road, in Abbots Leigh, after residents flagged how many drivers ignore a ‘no left turn’ sign from the junction with Abbots Leigh Road.

Officers stopped vehicles who “ignored the no left turn” between 7.30am and 9am on Wednesday morning (November 27), a spokesperson for the team said.

“102 vehicles were stopped and drivers given words of advice about their failure to obey the signage,” they said.

“Many drivers cited they were “only following their Sat Nav”, but it is the responsibility of drivers to be aware of any restrictions and adhere to them,” they added.

The route is a popular landmark, with people travelling from across the area to walk in the woods, with Clifton just over a mile away.
