A 35-year-old man was arrested in Bridgwater after officers found him in the River Parrett.
A man in his 50s was taken to hospital on Friday night (November 15) after he was badly injured in an assault on Fore Street after 8.30pm.
The injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life changing.
Officers found a man aged 35 in a nearby river and pulled him to safety before subsequently arresting him on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
He has since been released on bail.
Avon and Somerset Police want to hear from any witnesses.
