THE benefits of breastfeeding have been celebrated at a number of events.
North Somerset Council has been holding a number of events to boost efforts to support children and families through the work of it’s Healthy Early Years team.
They took place at Nailsea Library, Coates House in Nailsea, the Note Warehouse in Yatton and Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm in Wraxall – all venues which are part of the North Somerset Breastfeeding Welcome scheme, which supports parents feeding their babies when they are out and about.
New parents and their babies had the chance to meet the council’s infant feeding support workers, breastfeeding peer supporters and find out more about the support available to them.
Cllr Jenna Ho Marris, the council’s executive member for public health, said: “Thank you to our teams and volunteers for organising these wonderful events, and of course to the host venues and everyone who came along.
“We’re a council that cares about people and we’re committed to helping North Somerset children enjoy the best possible start to life. Access to high quality infant and breastfeeding support plays a huge part in this.
“There are lots of ways to access that support here in North Somerset, including weekly groups, Facebook support groups and, of course, you can also speak to your health professional.
“It’s fantastic to see these local venues welcome breastfeeding and support local families.”
The last event, in Wraxall, saw more than 20 families take part, with Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm also offering attendees free entry to the attraction.
Rhian Gunstone, brand and engagement manager for Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm, added: “We understand how important it is for new parents to feel supported and included in their communities.
“By hosting events like this, we hope to inspire confidence in parents, providing them with a safe space to enjoy their time with their little ones and create special memories.
“It’s part of our commitment to be a zoo that truly welcomes and inspires everyone who visits.”
