Plans submitted for replacement after Wellington toilet block destroyed in crash

PLANS to replace a toilet block in Wellington that was demolished after being damaged in a crash have been submitted.

Wellington Town Council (WTC) has submitted a planning application to Somerset Council for a replacement toilet block in Longforth Road.

It comes after the former toilet block was damaged in a crash in December 2022, which made the building unsafe, meaning it was later demolished.

“The council are committed to replacing the original toilets to meet the needs of the public and therefore are seeking to construct a new building providing two independent WCs and a DAP toilet with baby-change facilities, along with a small storage room for council use,” the plans said.

“In addition to these works, a new parking space for a council vehicle will be provided adjacent to the building on the western side to give access to the store and for the maintenance of the toilets.

“No changes will be undertaken to the highway as an existing drop kerb is available to access the hard standing space.”

Somerset Council planners will now consider the scheme. For more details, and to comment on the plans, log on to somerset.gov.uk and search application reference 43/24/0094.
