DOG owners in Stratton-on-the-Fosse could benefit from a new secure dog walking field if plans are approved.
An application to change the use of a field currently occupying horses at Church Lane has been submitted.
While the field is 2.6 hectares, the secure dog field is set to only take up 1.2-hectares – with the rest of the field to be converted into a hay meadow.
The plans also include the creation of a car park with spaces for two cars and a 1.8m high fence.
Secure dog walking fields have become more popular over recent years as they provide a safe space for dogs to run around in without fear of bumping into fellow dog walkers – ideal for those with reactive dogs or dogs in training.
The vehicle access will be via Church Lane/Watery Lane, through the farm entrance and an existing farm road which leads to the field gate.
As part of the plans, a new 120 metre hedgerow will be planted on the outside of the proposed fence, with 15 new trees planted and the introduction of native wildflowers in the hay meadow.
As no external lighting is to be installed the dog field would be open from 7am to 4pm. In summer, the opening hours would switch to 6am to 9pm.
Customers will be able to book 50-minute slots with the sessions duration lasting one hour to ensure there is no cross over with other dogs entering the field.

The application reads: “The secure field provides assurance of not encountering another dog during the session.
“This security supports various needs allowing the owners and even perhaps the dog to have a worry-free walk, allowing the dog to freely roam around off lead within the safety of the secure field.”
It added: “There is an increased amount of nervous owners, apprehensive about meeting other dogs and are seeking opportunities for off-lead walks in the countryside.
“Making an area of the countryside easily accessible for off-lead walking will be a valuable addition to the dog walking community in and around the local area.
“Providing a space for the local residents to escape privately with their dog, where they can enjoy watching their dog exercise whilst listening to the natural sound of birds, insects and wildlife within the adjoining the areas.”
