Somerset petrol station wants new roof as it keeps getting hit by high vehicles

THE canopy at a Somerset petrol station is set to be replaced because it keeps getting hit by high vehicles.

Jaygar Architectural Design has applied for Somerset Council for permission to replace the structure at Bawdrip Service Station, on the A39 Bath Road.

If approved, the scheme would also see a new 35,000-litre tank installed on the site to allow the filling station to sell super diesel-grade fuel.

The application details how the canopy needs to be raised to a height of around five metres.

“The site is currently operating as a petrol station and has done for many years and has an extremely low forecourt canopy and has a history of being struck by high vehicles, causing ‘health and safety’ issues,” it said.

“Currently, if a high-sided vehicle enters the site at the junction of the A39/B3141, it cannot pass below the canopy and then has to reverse in order to exit the site.”

“Also, the proposal includes for the installation of an above-ground diesel tank to the rear of the existing sales building,” it added.

“This will enable the forecourt to provide additional fuel grades (super diesel) in the new tank and a reconfiguration of the existing below-ground tanks to provide super unleaded.

“This again will enhance the facilities available to the modern-day customer.”
