Refurbished Wellington Library opens to the public TODAY

BOOK lovers will return to the historic home of Wellington Library today as the refurbished venue re-opens.

At 9.30am, doors open at the traditional Fore Street library after a major refurbishment, with an official opening set for next week.

Somerset Council said the library, which has been a cornerstone of the town centre since 1969, has seen “significant upgrades” during a temporary closure, which which saw it move to North Street.

Improvements at Wellington Library include:
Enhanced accessibility: improved access for both staff and visitors across all floors
Community connection: new spaces designed to foster community engagement, partnerships, and provide comprehensive advice and guidance
The children’s library has a great new space, and the team is excited to offer more flexible events and activities for the whole community
Eco-friendly upgrades: increased thermal efficiency in line with Somerset Council’s Climate Emergency Strategy

The refurbished library is open between office hours and Mayor of Wellington, Cllr Janet Lloyd, will officially open it at 11am on Wednesday (October 2).

Cllr Federica Smith-Roberts, executive lead member for communities, housing, and culture at Somerset Council, said: “We’re thrilled to have Wellington Library back in Fore Street. The upgraded premises will serve as a vibrant hub for both the local community and visitors.”

As well as thousands of book available for loan, the library provides services including digital resources, community events, health and wellbeing support, and even business and employment advice.

Wellington Library opening hours:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday: 9.30am to 5pm
Thursday and Saturday: 9.30am to 1pm
