NINE new homes could be built in Glastonbury after fresh plans were submitted to develop a site on the edge of the town.
Angus Meek Architects, on behalf of Crossman Acquisitions Ltd, has submitted a planning application to Somerset Council to demolish barns on land at Northload Bridge Farm and build nine dwellings, with access from Godney Road.
It comes after a previous application – for 27 homes on the site – was refused.
The plot is bordered by the B3151, Meare Road, Godney Road and Glastonbury Football Club.

“The site currently comprises mainly unused pasture with dilapidated commercial barns arranged around a concrete hardstanding to the north west,” the application said.
“The existing barns have been assessed for potential reuse but their redevelopment is not considered viable as part of this development.”
An orchard site to the south of the site could be enhanced, it said, to boost biodiversity on the site, with a rhyne providing adequate drainage.
Properties planned for the plot would be three, four and five-bedroom detached, two-storey homes, it went on.

“The proposed dwellings all have front and rear landscaped gardens offering private amenity space,” the plan said.
“In addition, a proposed public open space is located to the north of the site to suit the size of the development.”
The design of the homes aim to ensure they “respond to, and sit comfortably, within the surrounding context”, in are in a “traditional style”.
The plans will now be considered by Somerset Council planners. For more details, and to comment, log on to somerset.gov.uk and search for application reference 2024/1600/FUL.
