12 year old boy arrested after hate crime and car set alight in Weston-super-Mare

A 12-year-old boy has been arrested after a man in his 50s was assaulted and racially abused before a car was set on fire in Weston-super-Mare Monday (September 2).

The 12-year-old, who was arrested on suspicion of common assault and arson is the third arrest in connection with the incident, with a 34-year-old and a 37-year-old arrested earlier in the week.

Officers were called to Dunster Crescent at 7.01pm to reports of an altercation. A second call was received at 10.29pm after a person was seen throwing an object at a parked car which then caught on fire.

House-to-house and CCTV enquiries have subsequently been carried out as part of the ongoing investigation.

Chief Inspector Jonathan Murray said: “We continue to keep the victim updated and supported as our investigation progresses.

“If you were in the area at the time and saw anything – or have any footage – which could help our investigation, please contact us.”

Police are now appealing for anyone with information or footage of the incident to get in touch.
