MORE roadworks in Bridgwater – with West Street to close daily until September 2

WEST Street in Bridgwater will be closed during the day until September 2 after “vital” work got underway.

In the latest set of roadworks announced for the town, Somerset Council said “vital preparation and resurfacing works” are being carried out, with the road closed between 7.30am and 6pm each day, except at weekends.

The council’s highways team is carrying the work between the A39 junction with West Gate and Durleigh Road, which will include preparation work, followed by resurfacing.

Access will be maintained for residents and businesses, however the council warned “some delays and inconvenience can be expected”.

A diversion will be in place during the hours the road is closed.

Cllr Richard Wilkins, lead member for transport and digital, said: “Resurfacing is an essential part of our programme maintenance schedule.

“We appreciate this will have an impact on local traffic, which is why our team has scheduled this in the summer holidays.

“Please plan ahead if they use this route regularly. If possible, the team will do everything they can to complete this scheme ahead of schedule.”
