Somerset MP pays respect to late Glastonbury Mayor Alan Gloak MBE in parliament

SARAH Dyke MP (Lib Dem, Glastonbury and Somerton) tabled a motion in parliament to pay respects to the late former Mayor and Freeman of Glastonbury Alan Gloak MBE.

The parliamentary motion recognises the huge role Mr Gloak played in Somerset life and expresses gratitude for his constant community spirit.

Mr Gloak recently had a memorial plaque erected in his honour and plaque was unveiled at Glastonbury Town Hall during this year’s Glastonbury in Bloom festival, an annual event that he proudly established over 25 years ago.

In addition to creating cultural initiatives for the town, Mr Gloak was committed to helping people in Somerset and stated his proudest contribution to Somerset was founding the charity TS5C which supported young able-bodied and disabled athletes across the county.

Mr Gloak also played a pioneering role for the LGBTQ+ community, as a writer for HIM magazine and Q International.

Sarah Dyke said she was delighted to table the parliamentary motion to remember the life of Mr Gloak and the contribution he made to his community.

“Alan played a massive role in making Somerset a better place for everyone who calls this part of the world home and his legacy continues,” she said.

“His caring nature, constant advocacy for change, freedom of expression and community spirit are qualities that we should all strive to have.

“I am glad that his contributions to society are now formally recognised in this parliamentary notion. His life was a life well lived.”
