A FORMER landmark filling station on the A303 in Somerset is set to be demolished.
Planning firm Carter Jonas, on behalf of National Highways, has submitted a planning application over the demolition of the Camel Hill Services Filling Station, just off the Sparkford Roundabout.
The application is to determine if planning permission for the demolition is required, with work earmarked to take place in September.
Work at the site will not affect the neighbouring Mattia Diner.
It comes as work continues on the A303 dualling project between Sparkford and Ilchester.
The delayed scheme aims to improve travel in the area, cutting waiting times during busy periods – such as the summer holidays.
National Highways said an average day sees some 23,500 vehicles use the stretch, which will be dualled once work is complete.
