A YOUTH centre could get a makeover to improve facilities and repair the building, if plans are approved.
Stone + Partners, on behalf of the trustees, have submitted plans to refurbish the interior and exterior of the Martock Youth Centre building, in Church Street.
The application details plans to remove a false ceiling in the listed property and altering a mezzanine floor and improving access, as well as taking out current worktops and remodelling the ground floor.
Repairs would also be carried out on the building, which dates from the 1840s.
The application said the works are “considered to be justified in the interests of improving the building for its continuing use as a youth club and future needs as a community meeting space for local groups, and having a neutral impact upon the heritage asset”.

Alterations would see changes made to the entrance vestibule, the ground floor kitchen and youth room, the main hall, the rear toilet/office area and the Cadet Meeting Room on the first floor.
Roof vents, understood to have been installed in the early 1900s, would be removed and the roof “made good” under the plans, with a new ramp and steps installed to the front of the property.
External stonework and the roof would be repaired, as well as insulation improved.
