Update following Frome Slip ‘n’ Slide incident

SOMERSET Council has carried out checks at a Slip ‘n’ Slide attraction near Frome following an incident where a boy was airlifted to hospital.

The youngster is believed to have been hurt on June 16, when his mother claimed his leg was ‘caught in a water suction pump’ at Ultimate Slip ‘n’ Slide, which has been set up at Beckington.

Ultimate Slip ‘n’ Slide received national attention when Lib Dem leader Sir Ed took on the attraction as part of an election stunt.

Somerset Council has since visited the site to check that the inlet to a water recirculation pipe in the pool was securely covered.

The council has confirmed that the company has reviewed its risk assessment for the Slip ‘n’ Slide.

A spokesperson said: “Following an incident involving a child’s leg accidentally slipping onto a narrow water recirculation pipe (8 cm diameter) at Ultimate Slip n Slide, Beckington and prior to its weekend re-opening on Saturday 22nd June, Somerset Council checked that the inlet was securely covered.

“The water is very shallow and the remote pump, whose suction is only just detectable by hand, was turned off very quickly by a supervisor at the time of the incident.

“The risk assessment for the attraction has been reviewed by the business, with increased emphasis on slide user instructions not to climb back into the slide or end pool after sliding.”

The company released a full statement about the incident on the Ultimate Slip and Slide Facebook page.

So on their response they blamed the child and they’ve done nothing wrong, but now had to reassess their risk assessment they were then in the wrong, will they be making a public apology to the family ?
