A DRIVER had a miraculous escape after the 44-tonne lorry he was in overturned near Langport.
The incident happened at Aller, near Langport, at just before 7am on Friday morning (March 29).
Fire crews from Somerton and Bridgwater, as well as a heavy rescue vehicle from Taunton, were sent to the scene after police reported an HGV had overturned.
“Control immediately mobilised two fire appliances, from Somerton and Bridgwater, along with a heavy rescue vehicle and support vehicle from Taunton and a supporting officer.
“Once on scene, crews confirmed one lorry had left roadway and landed on its side in a field and the driver was still within the vehicle.
“Crews got to work making contact with driver using triple extension ladder.
“Within 15 minutes of crews arriving, the driver was released from the vehicle uninjured using a triple extension ladder.
“Crews then got to work stemming diesel leaking from the fuel tanks. Due to the diesel leaking, the Environment Agency was informed.”
