Eight high-speed EV charging points planned at Taunton filling station

EIGHT high-speed electric vehicle charging points could be installed at a busy Taunton filling station.

A planning application has been submitted for the charging points at the BP filling station at the Cross Keys roundabout, near Norton Fitzwarren.

The plans show how the EV charging bays would be created on land previously earmarked as a jet washing facility, which has not been completed.

Four charging points would be installed for eight charging bays, along with a sub-station and enclosure, lighting and new hardstanding, in a bid to address the “urgent need” for charging.

“The hub will be an electric vehicle on-the-go rapid-charging facility in a busy highway location,” the application said.

“This facility will provide much-needed highway charging infrastructure for the transition to electric vehicles as BP continues to meet the ever-growing need for such facilities.”

The charging points would be open at the same times as the filling station.

Somerset Council planners will now consider the scheme.
