Excellent exam results at Huish Academy

Celebrations were the order of the day after a great set of results from Huish Sixth students which enabled many students to progress to top universities such as Bristol, University College London and Birmingham. This week once again Huish Episcopi students and staff are celebrating great GCSE results which will place them amongst the highest achieving schools in Somerset.

The headline rate of five A*-C grades increased by 9% to 77.7% A*-C compared to the national figure for the UK of 68.8%. The Academy also saw an even bigger 10% increase in the number of students achieving five A*-C grades, including English and Mathematics, with this measure now standing at 70%. (This is 10% higher than the national figure for last year)

The English Baccalaureate results, which are made up of results from English, Mathematics, Science, Languages and Humanities, also showed impressive performance improvements by over 5% to 40% and again ensures Huish Episcopi is one of the top performing schools in Somerset especially for the more academic subjects which are often recognised as the basis for entry to Britain’s best universities.

The percentage of students achieving an A* or A grade has also increased considerably with 61% of students gaining at least one top grade. This represents an increase of almost 7% on 2013. In addition over a third of the cohort achieved three A* or A grades and amazingly almost a quarter of students achieved five A* or A grades.

Huish Episcopi students and staff then got down to celebrating great GCSE results which should see the school placed amongst the highest achieving schools in Somerset. They were also the best results the school has had for four years.

Thirty five students achieved eight or more A* or A grades. While these were undoubtedly fantastic achievements the school also recognised the success of all of our students many of whom will have worked exceptionally hard to secure the excellent results that this fantastic year group have achieved. The hard work from students of all abilities across the year group is seen in the brilliant progress made by students. In both English and Mathematics students have greatly exceeded national levels of “expected progress” and “beyond expected progress”. Both English and Mathematics achieved 78% A*-C pass rates with 22% of students achieving top A* or A grades in English and 31% achieving top A* or A grades in Mathematics.

The only pressure on the school now, will be to do even better next year….
