Free climate event to discuss action in Somerset

CLIMATE action will be the theme of an event in Somerset this month.

Action for Somerset’s Future will take place on Saturday, May 18, at the Albermarle Centre in Taunton.

Organised by Community Action Groups (CAG) Somerset, the Somerset Climate Action Network and Somerset Local Nature Partnership, it is set to feature panel discussions and workshops, with attendees also able to contribute to the development of Somerset’s Local Nature Recovery Strategy.

Running between 10am and 3.30pm, Trewin Restorick, founder of the charity Hubbub UK and Sizzle, will be joining the event as the keynote speaker.

Mr Restorick is winner of the 2020 Global Leader of the Year award, 2021 Business Green ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’, and in 2022, was voted ‘Most influential person’ in the UK’s recycling and resource sector.

Members of the public can also hear from the likes of Anita Roy, chair for Transition Town Wellington; Cllr Dixie Darch, lead member for environment and climate change at Somerset Council; Wivey Kitchen Community Group; Lily Morton, community liaison officer for SUEZ recycling and recovery UK; Nicky Saunter, founder of Boston Tea Party cafes; and Mickey Green, executive director for climate and place at Somerset Council.

Cllr Darch said: “I’m pleased to lead Somerset Council’s response to the climate emergency.

“This event gathers members of the community and concerned groups to inform the development of Somerset’s Local Nature Recovery Strategy.

“Everyone is invited to join us, your input can help drive our climate strategy forward.”
