Wincanton Plc loses Ribena contract with Suntory

MORE bad news for logistics firm Wincanton Plc has been confirmed after the company lost a major contract.

Last week, it was confirmed the company had lost a contract with dairy giant Muller, serviced from the depot in Wincanton, with the company saying it will retain ‘limited operations’ in the town.

Now, it has emerged they have lost another deal, this time with Ribena maker, Suntory.

That contract is managed from a Wincanton depot in Gloucester, where workers are currently being transferred to their new employer.

What the move means for the future of the site – not far from junction 11a of the M5 – is not clear.

A Wincanton spokesperson said: “We can confirm that our contract with Suntory will be ending as the customer has chosen to move operations to a new location.

“We are proud to have supported Suntory with an excellent service over the time we have worked together.

“We are conscious of the uncertainty this transfer causes for our colleagues.

“A TUPE process will be commencing with the new service provider and we will work to support all affected colleagues in the coming weeks and months.”

Suntory has a plant at Coleford, in the Forest of Dean, also in Gloucestershire.

The company, which also produces brands including Lucozade Sport, has made Ribena in Gloucestershire since 1947.
